MISSHA BB Cream – Oriental Beauty

Well, it’s not a mystery that not-so-recently I’ve been enjoying Korean beauty’s concept. Or, more in general, an Oriental beauty’s concept. My admiration for Japanese handicraft in make up brushes (you can read about Mizuho Brush here and about Chikuhodo here) has a long history. Even if South Korea and Japan are – of course – different countries with a different history and culture, I think that they both embrace a particular way to see beauty, despite huge distinctions. I’d say that they both pay a lot attention to skincare and the aim for a flawless face. Also, time is a fundamental factor: taking your time to take care of yourself is a concept that Western life has long forgotten.

It all started when I heard about bb creams for the first time. I mean, original bb creams. At that time I got in touch with a new beauty world thanks to reseller shops (for example www.bbcreamshop.eu). After reading tons of review I decided to give Missha BB Cream a try.

I firstly chose Missha BB Cream Perfect Cover in travel size. The best thing about Korean brands is that they often sell travel size products. Missha BB Cream Perfect Cover travel size comes with 20ml for $11 (while regular size is 50ml for $22). That’s not bad if you thin that traditional foundations are usually 30ml. You know, Oriental BB Creams are Blemish Balms addressed to people with skin issues such as acne prone skin, acne scars and various discolorations. They’re meant to provide coverage, a high sun protection while “healing” – or it could be better treating – those skin problems thanks to active ingredients and natural extracts.

MISSHA BB Creams: Perfect Cover – Real Signature – Cho Bo Yang

Missha BB Creams

MISSHA BB Creams in No.21 Light Beige. Bottom to top: Perfect Cover, Real Signature, Cho Bo Yang

In Missha range there are different bb creams for different skin types. Missha BB Cream Perfect Cover is suitable for normal to combination skins. It can be used as a primer or as a foundation on its own. I always use it as a foundation because it gives me medium buildable to high coverage, as any traditional foundation. It comes in only three colours: No.21 Light Beige, No.23 Natural Beige, No.27 Honey Beige but they’re supposed to adapt to various skintones. I have No.21 Light Beige which is good for every N15 gal. Recently they add a fourth colour: No.13 Milky Beige which should match N10-15 skintones. Keep in mind that these Oriental BB Creams are usually thought for light-medium skintones. Missha BB Cream Perfect Cover has a thick consistency with a cool, greyish cast which oxidize after few minutes to look completely natural. Despite its heavy texture it really blends into your skin effortlessly, though you have to use a very little amount. It has a great coverage on dark spots and imperfections without a cakey effect. Finish is not too dewy but still luminous. However I don’t get an oily feeling even during summer. It lasts well for about 10-12 hours. When I looked at its ingredients I was a bit scaried because even it it’s supposed to be used on acne prone skin it contains mineral oil which is an occlusive ingredients. I don’t know why but I never got any breakout nor blackhead from it. For sure, you have to remove it carefully as any other product with high SPF. This one has a SPF42 PA+++.

I was so impressed with this product that after a while I got two other BB Creams from the same brand.

Missha BB Cream M Signature Real Complete also comes in travel size (20ml for $14). It is especially formulated for sensitive skin providing the same moisturizing properties of a day cream. It has a lighter and more liquid texture than Missha BB Cream Perfect Cover. It also have a less grey colour. It blends seamlessly with a radiant, dewy finish. You can really feels that it moisturizes your skin. It also have a lighter coverage, I’d say it’s a light to medium coverage. It is available in four colours (same as above) and it has a lower SPF (SPF25 PA++). It is supposed to be hypoallergenic, noncomedogenic, and free of parabens, mineral oil, alcohol, GMOs, Triclosan, and Benzophenone. I thought I could be even happier with this BB Cream but it has three downside for me: it doesn’t last too much (about 6 hours), it is a bit too dewy for me (but it may be good for those one with extremely dry skin) and it does break me out. I really don’t understand why since it has better ingredients than Missha BB Cream Perfect Cover with Eco-cert certificate; maybe I am sensitive to some extracts.

Last but not least my favourite Missha BB Cream. It’s the Missha BB Cream Misa Cho Bo Yang BB Cream with SPF30/PA++. Its texture is in-between Missha BB Cream Perfect Cover and Missha BB Cream Real Signature. Not too thick nor too fluid. It is slightly less grey than Missha BB Cream Perfect Cover but has the same great coverage on my spots and imperfections. It’s meant to more mature skin with anti-aging properties. Luckly this one doesn’t break me out. It has a radiant, youthful finish with a healty effect. A sort of your skin but better product. It doesn’t come in travel size and it’s available only in two colours: No.21 and No.23. The best thing about Missha BB Cream Misa Cho Bo Yang BB Cream is that is highly moisturizing but not oily at all.
